Dreams Do Come True - Mhlambi

Dreams do come True or Not – guess if you work hard at what you love and a chance knocks on your door then we can say dreams come true or hard work pays.


The McDonalds under 14 School’s Tournament has become a hub for scouters that want to unearth and nurture raw talent in to being best soccer stars that can play anywhere in the world.


Now in its 7th year, the McDonald’s U/14 Schools League will take place in a new format of soccer festivals where provincial teams will travel to selected provinces to play their finals.


Bidvest Wits midfielder, Phakamani Mhlambi is testimony to this “I am Loving it” testimony that the McDonalds under 14 Tournament does make “Dreams come true. Now 19 years old, Phakamani Mhlambi was spotted in 2013 while playing for Kempton Park’s School of Excellence at the  McDonalds u/14 League. The talented midfielder was spotted by SA top soccer agent, Glynn Blinkin- little did he know that his dream of being a professional soccer player would be a reality so soon.


“Not everyone can make it through the McDonalds u/14 tournament but if you work hard you  have a chance of getting closer to your professional soccer career. Hard work and discipline is what you need , as a McDonald u/14 dreamer, its my wish to see the tournament turn into a league , that way a lot of youngsters will be spotted” added Mhlambi.


Kwazulu-Natal will be hosting the Free State where 18 schools will compete and only one from each province will be crowned champions to represent their province at the national finals to be held in Gauteng later in the year. 

“The McDonald’s U/14 Schools League is aimed at developing dreams at grassroots level. We are excited about the soccer festivals as they will allow children to showcase their football talent amongst their peers” said McDonald’s South Africa Corporate Affairs Director, Sechaba Motsieloa.


The soccer festivals will provide football lovers lots of entertainment from DJ Arch Junior, Ronald McDonald and other fun-filled activities including Jumping Castles, Face-Painting and much more.


“We encourage parents and the surrounding community to invite their friends and families to join the festivities and to also support the children showcase their football skills,” concludes Motsieloa.

Festival 1: Vled en Vlei Sports Complex, Richards Bay

KZN hosting the FS – 30 July 2016

Festival 2: Embanehle Sasol Club, Secunda

MP hosting LIMP – 13 August 2016

Festival 3: Alabama Stadium, Klerksdorp

NW hosting GP – 20 August 2016

Festival 4: Erica Park, Belhar

WC hosting EC & NC – 10 September 2016
