REGIONAL COPA COCA COLA ELIMINATIONS KICK OFF IN EASTERN CAPE

This weekend kicks off the first of a series of the regional eliminations in the prestigious Copa Coca – Cola under 15 tournament under the aegis of the SA Schools Football Association. First in line to draw blood and sweat is the four regions of the Eastern Cape where a total of 54 schools will be battling out for the 4 slots during the provincial finals.

The Nelson Mandela Bay games take place at Galvendale Stadium will see the likes of the regional defending champs Ndzondelelo being under pressure to perform miracles if they hope to emulate the success of 2016. They will be joined by 15 other schools the likes of Molly Blackburn, Ncedo High of Zwide who have a good track record of dominating schools football in the area.

400 km away at Thandanani Stadium in Matatiele will be home to the 16 schools battling out to earn a cap for Alfred Nzo District. It is predicted that the stiff competition will be between the big guns of the area Mnceba Secondary, Jojo hHigh and the local Zamokuhle High.

Sarah Baartman Festival will set Joza Township’s JG Dlephu ablaze when the cream de la cream also flexes strength and mental awareness of the game. The schools competing are A. Mbolekwa Senior Primary, Aberdeen Secondary, Camdeboo Primary, Nojoli Primary, Celubuhle Primary, J. Ngqongqoza High, Kuyasa High and Bhongweni High School.

The last festival of the day takes place at NU 6 Stadium in Mdantsane where 12 schools will converge.  Some of the schools that will be participating to name a few are Ludondolo JSS, Geya JSS, Phuthuma JSS, Caley JSS, Tiyo Soga JSS & Upper Mthwaku JSS

“We are more than satisfied that the participating schools have taken this opportunity to play the beautiful game after a daunting task of eliminations at the lower levels and surely the standard of play will be of quality. This presents an opportunity for the professional outfits in the Eastern Cape to scout talent that is so rich” said Mandla ‘Shoes’ Mazibuko the President of SASFA.

The winner of each of the regional festivals will earn a spot in the Provincial finals later in the year.
