Guqaza Junior Secondary School crowned 2013 Nestlé MILO Eastern Cape Provincial Champions

Johannesburg – Guqaza Junior Secondary Primary School was crowned Eastern Cape’s 2013 Provincial Champions at the Nestlé MILO u/13 Championships Football Tournament held at JG Dlephu Stadium in Grahamstown on Saturday, 03 August 2013.

After playing in very competitive round robin matches at this year’s Provincial Final, Guqaza Junior Secondary School emerged as Champions when they beat E.N Makaula Junior Secondary School 2 – 1 in the final match. Other schools that participated in the tournament were N.V Cewu Primary, Mazungula Primary, Maletsoai Primary, Maqhubela Junior Secondary and Charles Morgan Primary Schools.

The Nestlé MILO Champions Tournament is not just about developing the soccer skills of these young stars. It is our goal to educate the youth during their formative years about the benefits of leading healthy and active lifestyles.  We are extremely proud of how seriously these children take the sport and the tournament itself, and the positive impact it is having on their lives,” says Kelly Wainwright, Nestlé SA Marketing Manager for Dairy.

Guqaza Junior Secondary Primary School will receive R10 000 to invest in an initiative which is in line with Nestlé MILO’s values of Nutrition, Health and Wellness. They will be able to use these funds to improve the sporting facilities or buy sporting equipment for their school.  The winners of the National Final in September will receive a further R150 000.00 and go on to represent South Africa at the MILO African Championships in 2014.

“Youth development through sports is one of the biggest means of positively impacting and inspiring the lives of young South Africans in this country. It is a dream come true for all of us at SASFA and at Nestlé MILO, to see how far the tournament has come as we commemorate its sixth year of existence. We congratulate Guqaza Junior Secondary Primary School for their exceptional performance at this year’s Eastern Cape Provincial Final and we look forward to welcoming them to the National Final in September this year” says Mandla ‘Shoes’ Mazibuko, President of SASFA.

The Nestlé MILO Champions Tournament, now in its 6th year, is hosted by Nestlé MILO in conjunction with the South African Schools Football Association (SASFA).
