Johannesburg – The Western Cape Province is set to host another edition of the 2013 Nestlé MILO u/13 Champions Football Tournament on Saturday, 17 August 2013. This year, the Provincial Final will take place at Site C Khayelitsha Stadium in Khayelitsha.
2013 marks the 6th year of Nestlé South Africa and the South African Schools Football Association’s (SASFA) partnership and commitment to the development of South Africa’s under 13 football stars.
The schools that will go head-to-head for the title of “Western Cape Provincial Champions” are Hlengisa Primary, TM Ndanda Primary, Umyezo Wama Apile Primary, JD Crawford Primary, Uitkyk Primary and Pieter Langeveldt Primary Schools.
After five years of nurturing football talent among young footballers, Nestlé South Africa, in association with SASFA, is proud of the growing success of the Tournament. “Every child that actively participates in this under-13 Tournament becomes an ambassador for healthy living. It is a major responsibility, and when these young stars get off the soccer field, they become an inspiration and an example to their schoolmates and communities of how leading a healthy, active lifestyle and possessing a positive attitude can change your life for the better,” says Kelly Wainwright, Nestlé South Africa’s Category Marketing Manager for Dairy.
This year is especially important to all the competing teams because South Africa’s National Champions will go on to represent South Africa at the MILO African Champions Tournament against National Champions from other African countries in 2014.
“One of the most important things about this Tournament is that it gives Nestlé a platform to educate the youth on the significance of eating healthily and of leading an active lifestyle. Nestlé is particularly proud to form part of a program that not only provides increased access to sport and opportunities for aspiring footballers in South Africa, but also a chance to teach young kids these values – that in itself is rewarding to Nestlé as brand,” Wainwright added.
This year, all nine Provincial Champions will each receive R10 000.00 for their schools, and the National Champions will win R150 000.00, to be invested in a health and wellness initiative for their school.
“At the end of the day, the ultimate prize in this tournament is not about the money that the winning teams receive, substantial as it may be. The biggest reward remains in the experience and practice they acquire every time they step onto the playing field, as well as the healthy living life skills they are taught. Thanks to our partner Nestlé, it is programmes like the Nestlé MILO Champions Tournament that are essential to building our future footballers that will hopefully one day compete at professional level,” concluded SASFA President, Mr Mandla “Shoes” Mazibuko.
