SASFA Holds A “Groundbreaking” Meeting With The Department of Basic Education

The Management Committee (MANCO) of the South African Schools Football Association (SASFA) held a “groundbreaking” and “successful” meeting with the Department of Basic Education (DBE) on Tuesday, 25 July, paving way for a bright future for schools football and development in South Africa.

A high-powered delegation comprising of members of the SASFA Manco (President, two Vice Presidents, General Secretary and COO), representatives of the South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) and the National Association of School Governing Bodies (NASGB) met the School Enrichment Directorate of DBE in Pretoria on Tuesday to clarify the current standoff between SASFA and SAFA, provide feedback on the progress of schools football in the country and map a way forward, amongst other things.

An upbeat and elated SASFA President, Mr. Mandla “Shoes” Mazibuko said after the meeting with DBE that, “The meeting was very fruitful, candid and mutually beneficial in many respects and I’m convinced that after these deliberations the future of schools sport in general and schools football in particular, looks very bright.”

Mazibuko said it is premature to release the exact details of the meeting since all parties and stakeholders must first report to their principals and members respectively, except to say that it was a very positive meeting for both SASFA and future of schools football.

MANCO Resolutions

Following the meeting with DBE, MANCO deliberated and resolved on the following issues:

Immediate termination and expulsion of General Secretary, Steve Pila

Upon receipt of the DC hearing which recommended termination of Mr. Steve Pila’s membership as SASFA’s General Secretary, the MANCO resolved to implement the recommendation and terminated the membership of Mr. Pila with immediate effect. While Mr. Pila was on suspension and pending the outcome of the DC hearing, he continued to make contact with SASFA members, stakeholders and sponsors by making, amongst others, malicious media utterances, in flagrant breach of his conditions of suspension that he cannot do so, hence MANCO deemed it appropriate to terminate his membership with immediate effect. This effectively means that he is no longer a member of SASFA and cannot claim to represent the Association in any capacity.

Defection of two Vice Presidents

Mr. Innocent Sirhova and Mr. Dickson Moleko have since publicly defected to another parallel schools football body without express permission and mandate of SASFA, thus effectively terminating their membership of SASFA. These two have publicly, through their conduct, confirmed their allegiance to SAFA’s new schools football body. Therefore MANCO has terminated their membership and they are no longer members of SASFA with immediate effect and as such, they cannot claim in any manner or platform to act for or represent SASFA.
